Credit: 3 OR 4 hours.
Develops basic counseling skills in students who are interested in becoming a health-related professional. Students will be introduced to counseling approaches such as person-centered counseling, solution-focused brief therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing. Students will also have the opportunity to practice basic counseling process skills that would include empathic presence and responding, probing and summarizing, facilitating client self-challenge, managing reluctance and resistance, and goal planning.
