This course will explore grant writing, including the various genres associated with it (narratives, biosketches, current and pending support documents, data management plans, budgets, call-for-proposals, post-grant administration, etc.). The course will have a mid-term identifying grant possibilities related to students’ fields (reading call-for-proposals, CFPs). The final is a full grant proposal (~15 pages single spaced) that will go through extensive revisions with both the instructor and peers. The course is broken into four parts. (1) Learning about agency funding, documentation types, and CFPs. (2) Grant writing processes, including collaboration. (3) Writing grants and submission processes, as well as post-submission documentation. (4) Ethics and critiques of grant-writing ideologies.
