Title: United States in the World Topic: Readings explore such topics as the Atlantic world, borderlands, empire, transnationalism, migration, Americanization, Orientalism, militarization, and globalization. We will discuss the imperial turn, recent critiques of the nation-centered historiographical tradition, the relevance of postcolonial scholarship to the United States, the new diplomatic history, translocality, and the relation between U.S. history and world history.
