Section Info:
Description: This course provides an overview of the intricate formation of the United States to 1877. We examine the history of what is now the United States, but the relations and dynamics we study go beyond the current national boundaries of this nation. The course looks at imperial powers that shaped the development of the Americas through myriad networks of people, ideas, and goods spanning the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. After independence, the United States continued to receive waves of newcomers, adding new groups to its population as its territorial boundaries expanded.
