Credit: 1 TO 5 hours.

Provides credit toward undergraduate degree for undertaking study and/or a research project through faculty led programs or from an accredited foreign institution or approved overseas program.

Approved for both letter and S/U grading. May be repeated in the same or separate terms to a maximum of 18 hours. Final determination of appropriate credit will be made upon completion of the work done abroad and/or on campus. Prerequisite: One academic year (or one semester in the case of transfer students) in residence at UIUC, good academic standing, completion of at least thirty semester hours toward the bachelor's degree, and prior approval of the Department of Advertising. Some programs have additional requirements.

Automotive Advertising in Action: Branding, Sustainability, and Innovation (Japan): This 2nd 8-week immersive course offers students a deep dive into the fast-evolving world of automotive advertising with a focus on brand storytelling, sustainability messaging, and innovation in consumer engagement. Through a blend of classroom instruction, case study analysis, and experiential learning, students will explore how leading automotive brands craft compelling campaigns that reflect industry trends, environmental priorities, and technological advancements. Travel for this course will occur May 25 - June 3, 2026. The program fee is approximately $2,860; this fee does not include airfare. All students in the College of Media are welcome to apply for this course, however priority will be given to Advertising and CS+Advertising majors. Tourism and Branding in Italy

This short-term study abroad course provides the opportunity to learn about advertising practices and brand experiences related to international travel and tourism. Students will develop knowledge, insights and skills related to how destinations create brand identities by using advertising, media, attractions, events, people, history, government, businesses and unique cultural experiences to tell their brand stories. Experiential learning in Italy will immerse students in a wide variety of cultural activities in Rome and Florence. This course requires travel which is planned from May 18 to May 27. The program fee is approximately $3,531; this fee does not include airfare. All students in the College of Media are welcome to apply for this course, however priority will be given to Advertising and CS+Advertising majors.
