Section Info:
This course will meet in 104 Irwin Doctoral Study Hall. Business scholarship is a text-intensive field that draws on earnings calls, patents, online reviews, news articles, job postings, SEC filings, survey responses, social media posts, and contracts. Moreover, business phenomena are fundamentally relational. Firms exist within supply chain networks, alliance networks, co-invention networks, board interlock networks, competitive networks, and labor mobility networks. This doctoral seminar examines how large language models (LLMs) and graph neural networks (GNNs) can be applied to the two dominant forms of unstructured data in business research: text and networks. All substantive readings are drawn from leading journals.
