Perspectives on Global History
Section Info:
Topic: Perspectives on Global History Description: This course will examine the emergence of 'Global History' as a major field of historical research and teaching. We will read works that range from materialist approaches to those that emphasize culture and subjectivities, which nonetheless share a commitment to writing global histories without a determinant center. After reading some definitional works in the first few weeks, the core of this class will consist of recently published historical monographs, most set in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, which offer innovative methodologies to expand the possibilities of global history. In addition to these common readings, each student will also present on a global history topic of their choosing over the course of the semester.
