Credit: 3 hours.

An introduction to history through participation in role-playing games set in the past. Topics will vary each time the course is taught. Students will take on the roles of historical figures (famous or obscure) engaged in difficult and complicated situations, and will be obliged to adhere to the beliefs and circumstances of those figures while attempting to pursue a course of action that will help them win the game -- and possibly alter the course of history.

Topic: Revolutions and Rebellions. Description: Utilizing the Reacting to the Past methods to studying and learning history, this course will explore two pivotal moments in American history: The Constitutional Convention of 1787 and the Secession Crisis of 1861. In the Reacting to the Past approach students will engage in historic debates and try to understand and experience contested moments in American history. By exploring the dawn of the American Republic and the U.S. Civil War students will tackle themes of rights, law, citizenship, and loyalty that feature both historically, and in the modern day.
