Title: "CELTIC MUSIC." This course surveys musics of the Celtic world (Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Brittany, Galicia) and explores what it means to be "Celtic" through the perspective of music. We’ll discuss the aesthetics, symbols, and identity associated with Celticness in a global context, including contested ideas about race, nationality, and belonging. Topics we'll cover include musical practices, myth and folklore, and even some music making.
