Foundations and Methods of Musicology I

Credit: 4 hours.

Introduction to the field for graduate students in musicology and DMA cognates, and graduate minors in Music and Sound Studies. Explores the history and current state of the discipline of historical musicology, introduces methodological approaches, engages critical reading and analysis, and raises topics in professional development. Students will complete an approved research project on a subject of their choice.

Prerequisite: Graduate standing in Musicology; DMA cognate in Musicology; Music and Sound Studies graduate minor; or consent of instructor.
