MUS 554

Spring 2025 All Classes

All Classes

Credit: 2 hours.

Prepares advanced pianists for success as repetiteurs and assistant conductors in opera houses. Students will be asked to play and sing (as pianists do, not with the vocal qualities of a professional singer) several arias or ensembles each week, which will familiarize them with the most commonly found repertoire in Young Artists Programs in the industry. A working knowledge of French, German, and Italian is assumed. We will discuss prompting, orchestration and reduction, and the role of the rehearsal pianist.

Prerequisite: Restricted to Graduates in the School of Music; others with instructor permission.
