Section Title:
Curating Communities
Section Info:
Topic: "CURATING COMMUNITIES, CURATING MUSIC." In this hands-on course we will learn the processes of curating music exhibits for museums, public schools, and academic institutions while celebrating many aspects of a community’s musical heritage. The course will include topics on exhibit design, selecting and installing musical artifacts from local archives and museums within exhibits, researching and writing accessible exhibit scripts, and advertising and staging public engagement events that engage with represented communities. This course is designed to apply historical research, performance, and advertising skills to a practical setting, allowing students to construct meaningful relationships with a given community while educating others about a community’s musical  heritage. This course is designed around a series of hands-on projects that will culminate in a traveling exhibit, which will be installed at the School of Music, and a public concert-lecture that will take place in conjunction with the exhibit.
