Topic: "ENSEMBLE CREDIT FOR PIANISTS - CHAMBER MUSIC AND ACCOMPANYING." Purpose of course / learning outcome: To actively participate in ensemble playing as a pianist, learning the associated skills, protocol and repertoire for specific use in collaborative settings including chamber music, vocal accompanying, choral accompanying, orchestral piano, dance class accompaniment or other activities as assigned. Procedures: In consultation with the instructor and other SoM or related faculty, the student will be assigned an activity. Examples: accompany a choir in rehearsal and performance, observe dance classes and then play classes at the instructor and supervisor’s discretion, accompany for a weekly voice lesson and select public performances with the singer, accompany for a portion of a solo degree recital or studio recital, participate as the pianist in an orchestra or band for one or more concerts and the appropriate rehearsals, etc.

Topic: "CHORAL MM: VOCAL DICTION." Required for Choral MM students. The course is designed to provide an overview of diction skills for the emerging choral conductor. It is not intended to replace semester-long diction courses for students in the Vocal Performance or Vocal Coaching and Accompanying degrees. Using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), students will learn accurate and fluent pronunciation in the five primary singing languages (Italian, German, French, Latin, and English). In addition, they will develop their ear to recognize and correct pronunciation issues in their own and others' singing.
