TOPIC: Music in Our Midst This course is focused on music available to us at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts?a premiere performance venue in our midst. From string quartet recitals to new multimedia works, we will consider music?s role(s) in a diverse range of over a dozen performances. On some occasions we will be able to interact directly with the artists. Each event will spawn topics and point to developments that we will pursue further, such as music and death, intermediality, and socially responsible creativity. Students will choose five from over a dozen possible performances, and purchase student-rate tickets ($10 each) to those performances. No other costs are involved. Each of the five performances selected will be the subject of a written position paper. Class preparation will consist of selected readings and directed online research. During the last few weeks of the semester, students will develop and present individual projects focused on performance seasons at other venues. No mid-term or final exam is involved.
Restriction(s):
Restricted to students in the Music department.
