Critiques and explores various theoretical frameworks used to explain Latina/Latino academic achievement. Examines curricular and instructional issues by investigating how different school systems have implemented schooling for Latina/Latino students. Develops critical understanding of the role of education within the Latina/Latino community.

Same as LLS 449. 3 undergraduate hours. 2 or 4 graduate hours.

This course focuses on the educational experiences of Latinx communities both in and out of schools (k-12 & higher education). Grounded in Critical Race and Chicanx/Latinx feminist perspectives, this course introduces students to key concepts and important research to better understand the sociopolitical intersections (race, class, gender, sexuality, citizenship, language) that impact the educational pathways of Latinx students. As a an advanced cross listed course between Curriculum Instruction & Latina/Latino Studies, we will review theoretical, methodological, and pedagogical insights in the field.
