Topic: Policing in the United States Description: A critical examination of the development of policing in the United States from its origins to the present day. Students will first explore this topic through a global and national lens and then through a local lens, learning to recognize how “publics” and “communities” emerge from a combination of local, national and global histories. This course utilizes a community-based research and teaching model as part of the Humanities Research Lab. This means that students will engage in “hands on” historical research and learning in connection with communities both on and off campus, toward contributing solutions to build healthier communities.
