Students will experience how classical Pilates builds core strength, improves flexibility, and enhances muscle memory through precise, controlled movement. This course will 1) introduce the history of Pilates and highlight the key differences between classical Pilates (Joe’s original method) and contemporary approaches; 2) teach the full sequence of classical mat exercises with a focus on proper alignment, control, and execution; 3) deepen students’ understanding of how Pilates enhances strength, endurance, and performance in both athletic and everyday activities; and 4) build self-efficacy by giving students the confidence to practice Pilates independently while developing the self-sufficiency to incorporate it into their lifelong fitness routine. The course also explores the Yamas and Niyamas, offering a deeper understanding of yoga’s ethical and personal observances. Students will engage in group projects, creating their own sequences, and reflecting on their progress through self-practice and journaling. The course encourages sharing experiences and discussion assignments that reinforce personal growth. *Designed for students of all levels, promoting holistic wellness, body awareness, and mental clarity both on and off the mat.
