Broad introduction to global history, by exploring the global structures and transnational forces that have shaped human history, from the emergence of agriculture and urban centers to our contemporary global village.

Section Info: Title: Global History Topic: History 100 traces the gradual integration of various regions of the world into an interconnected system. The course follows a chronological narrative from the fifteenth century to the present. We will focus on four long-term developments that have most powerfully shaped the world in which we live: struggles between Europeans and colonized peoples; the global formation and spread of capitalism and industrialization; the formation of the modern state; and the development of ideas about race and racial formation. Forms of assessment include three exams and two short papers.
