Title: Global History Topic: History 100 traces the gradual integration of various regions of the world into an interconnected system. The course follows a chronological narrative from the fifteenth century to the present. We will focus on four long-term developments that have most powerfully shaped the world in which we live: struggles between Europeans and colonized peoples; the global formation and spread of capitalism and industrialization; the formation of the modern state; and the development of ideas about race and racial formation. Forms of assessment include three exams and two short papers.
