Topic Section D: The Teaching of Rhetoric This is a course for students new to the teaching of college writing. Over the course of the semester, we will explore connections between theories of writing instruction, language acquisition, and teaching practices. In particular, students in the course will theorize, through readings in history and theory of composition studies, practices relating to: syllabus and assignment design, conferencing with students, responding to student work, handling conflicts, maintaining language diversities in the classroom, and developing teaching personae. Requirements for the course include weekly readings, active participation in class discussion, a statement of teaching philosophy, and other periodic shorter course writings.

Restricted to English or Creative Writing major(s). Restricted to Graduate - Urbana-Champaign.
