Clowning the Classics—Adapting The Suppliants: This course begins with an introduction to clowning and devised theatre, using the fundamentals of clown and collaborative creation as tools for adaptation and performance. Students then apply these techniques to reimagine Aeschylus’ The Suppliants—a story of flight, trauma, and resilience that remains urgent and relevant today. In the second half of the semester, students collaborate with Paul O’Mahony (Out of Chaos Theatre, U.K.), Kim McKean (Theatre), and Angeliki Tzanetou (Classics) to write, rehearse, and perform their adaptation. This interdisciplinary collaboration culminates in a public presentation. Regular Meetings: (1/20/26-5/6/26) M,W; 3:00-4:20p Rehearsal Schedule: (4/6/26-4/15/26) M,T,W; 6:00-10:00p (4/10/26-4/17/26) F; 2:00-5:00p (4/18/26) Sat; 2:00-7:00p (4/20/26-4/25/26) M,T,W,R,F,Sat; 6:00-10:00p
