Examines topics related to international business that are not covered in BADM 380, BADM 381, BADM 382, BADM 338. Possible topics include cross-cultural management issues, cross-border merger and acquisition activities, the historical context of global capitalism, doing business in emerging economies, global research and development efforts, and global strategic human resource management.

May be repeated in the same or separate semesters to a maximum of 6 hours, if topics vary. Prerequisite: BADM 380.

This course examines the geopolitical environment around the world (geography, history, culture) and the institutional environment (economic, political, legal, and socio-cultural) that underpin and define today’s global competitive landscape. Through consistent reading (parts of books, The Economist, business cases), critical analysis and reflective assignments, students will gain a) a deeper global understanding of the world, its countries, regions, and peoples; b) a more nuanced appreciation of the specific challenges facing companies doing business across and within borders; and, c) a more thoughtful personal perspective about what it means to be an informed, human-centered international businessperson in today’s complex ecosystem. There are currently 10 reserved seats for Gies College of Business international exchange students; any unused seats will be released to students meeting the restrictions on Friday, January 23, 2026 at approximately 10:00 a.m. Any exchange students outside of Gies College of Business that register will be removed from the course.
