Topic: "SOUND AND COLONIALITY." The aim of Sound and Coloniality is to generate theoretical and critical frameworks for the study of sound and music’s articulation of, and challenges to, coloniality; the seminar will explore the entanglements, effects, and structures of sound and colonial power through various theoretical frameworks such as organology, material history, and cultural history. Weekly case studies—drawn from a broad range of historical periods and traditions—will form the basis of the weekly discussion. All participants will organize and lead at least one seminar session; a written projects on a topic related to the seminar will be expected at the end of the term.
