Section Title:
Res Designs for Causal Infer
Section Info:
This course is designed to equip students with econometric tools for conducting empirical research in operations management and information systems, as well as in other business-related areas. The course will focus on research designs for causal inference in observational studies. A variety of empirical methods can credibly show the correlation between variables, but making a causality argument requires a more conscious inference. In the absence of a randomized experiment, causality cannot be directly observed. Several factors can threaten a valid inference, including reverse causality, unobserved common factors, etc. This course will cover the most commonly used research designs in the literature. We will focus on how each design mitigates the threats to causal inference, as well as the common criticisms of each method. This course will emphasize the application of econometric tools and should not be treated as a replacement for standard econometric training.
