Credit: 2 hours.
Acquaints the student with a variety of opera, operetta, and musical theatre literature in contrasting styles and historical periods, culminating in a public performance of sung theatre (opera, operetta, musical theatre) productions and scenes each semester. Develops skills as both a solo and ensemble performer. Introduces skills related to the field of sung theatre performance, including, but not limited to, stage movement, mind-body awareness, diction, acting, and improvisational techniques. Forms and integrates a performing ensemble to serve as an outreach group that may perform in select venues off campus. Intended for voice majors (BM-Performance and BMA) and vocal accompanying/coaching majors; others by consent of instructor. Audition required.
2 undergraduate hours. 2 graduate hours. May be repeated in separate terms to a maximum of 12 undergraduate hours or 8 graduate hours. Prerequisite: Consent of instructor.
