Provides students with professional career exploration experiences that involve developing networking knowledge and skills while engaging with recreation, sport, and tourism industry alumni and professionals in their offices, agencies, and facilities. Students are exposed to best practices and current challenges in the industry, and are given opportunities to make connections for internships, mentorship, and career advancement.

Additional fees may apply. See Class Schedule. Approved for S/U grading only. May be repeated in separate terms to a maximum 4 hours.

Section Info:
1st-8 weeks. ILLINI “Get your kicks on Route 66” Develop networking skills with RST industry alumni & professionals while exploring Illinois via the “Mother Road” on its 100-year anniversary. Best practices and current issues will be explored, with an emphasis on tourism trends and the history & legends that made them iconic. Site visits include Funk Grove Maple Syrup Farm, Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, The Lincoln Home National Historic Site and Lincoln Tomb, Litchfield Route 66 District, and the Gateway Arch. Tour scheduled for March 7-8. Orientation and wrap up meetings scheduled for February 23, March 2, and March 9. A $160 course fee will cover transportation, hotel, site admission fees, and most meals. Please contact Renata Endres (rendres@illinois.edu ) for further information. Meets with RST 594.
