Credit: 3 hours.

Examines architecture and urbanism in the long nineteenth century (c1750-1900), focusing on Europe and North America. Significant attention will be paid to architectural responses to rapid technological and social changes, including industrialization and the rise of consumer culture, nationalism and colonialism, migration and urbanization, and changes to class and gender norms. We will also consider ancient and medieval architectural revivalism as anchors for political, social, and cultural meaning in the modern world.

Same as ARTH 438. 3 undergraduate hours. 3 graduate hours. Prerequisite: ARCH 210 or ARTH 112, or consent of instructor.
