Provides participants an in-depth, experiential immersion into the complex issues and constraints that confront international marketing channel participants. Contextually grounded and themed in a specific industry, the course combines on-campus lectures with an intensive international immersion experience to Europe, Asia, or Latin America. By following the complete marketing channel from raw materials procurement to final consumption, participants gain first-hand knowledge of the necessary managerial decision-making skills required to successfully operate in today's global business environment. To train future sport leaders in social justice competencies, this community-engaged, experiential learning course will empower students to teach high school athletes in Champaign County a curriculum focused on social justice leadership, titled IC-ChangeS (Inclusive Champions for Change through Sport). Students will gain both topical expertise (example topics: identity, unconscious bias, cultural competence, allyship) and effective facilitation training to develop the inclusive leadership skills needed to promote social justice in and through sport. ILLINI “Get your kicks on Route 66” Develop networking skills, with RST industry alumni & professionals while exploring Illinois via the “Mother Road”. Best practices and current issues will be explored, with an emphasis on tourism trends and the history & legends that made them iconic. Site visits include The Gateway Arch, Litchfield Route 66 District, Springfield Legislative Campus, Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, Lincoln Tomb State Historic Site, Funk Grove Maple Syrup Farm, and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Tour scheduled for Feb 28 – March 2. Orientation and wrap up meetings scheduled for Feb 10, Feb 24, March 10 at 4PM. Zou, S Zou, S	Part of Term: A Date Range: 01/21/25-03/14/25 Special Approval: Instructor Approval Required Credit: 4 hours Section Title: Sustainability & Rural Tourism Section Info: This exciting, one-of-a-kind course combines community-based tourism development principles with hands-on developing and planning practices in the context of rural China. Co-taught by faculty from architecture, art & design, and recreation, sport and tourism, the interdisciplinary course provides students with first-hand knowledge of how rural communities can leverage tourism to achieve economic, socio-cultural, and environmental sustainability. Students will work side-by-side with peers from architecture and art & design to develop a comprehensive tourism development plan in Jingdezhen, China. Working directly with local stakeholders (residents, local governments, the business community, etc.), students will gain valuable skills in asset mapping, competitor analysis, market analysis, community visioning, development planning, and marketing planning. This course includes an optional 10-day field trip to China, where students can immerse themselves in the unique culture, meet community partners and stakeholders, and see planning concepts in action.
