Title: Mapping China: Nature and Landscape in Past and Present Description: This course explores Chinese philosophical, poetic, and visual representations of landscape and the evolving dynamic between humanity and nature. Delving into textual analyses, archaeological findings, visual and material artifacts, as well as the intricacies of garden architecture from the 2nd century BCE to early modern times, this course elucidates the Chinese worldview, interactions with the natural environment, and land cultivation practices including agricultural methodologies, imperial park constructions, and garden planning principles. No knowledge of Chinese language is required.
