Section Info:
Topic: Progressivism in the New Century Description: The turn of the 20th century in the US was marked by hopes of social, political, and economic reform in response to rising levels of corruption and poverty. Through two lengthy role-playing reenactment games, this course will explore the many clashes and conflicts of this era, with differing visions on what changes needed to be made amidst the waves of industrialization and urbanization. The first game takes place in Greenwich Village, NY in 1913, as radical bohemians discuss the future of women's suffrage and labor rights. The second takes place in San Francisco from 1906-1915, where the local community determines whether Japanese schoolchildren will be sent to segregated schools, set amid changing racial naturalization and immigration laws.
