An interdisciplinary survey of the Native American experience in the Illinois region from pre-Columbian times to the present. Introduces theories, concepts and methods in archaeology, history, and sociocultural anthropology. Includes archaeological field site and museum visits, plus guest lectures by American Indian scholars and community members.

Same as AIS 288 and HIST 288.

Drawing from the fields of anthropology and history, Indians of Illinois will explore survey the Indigenous Midwest with a focus on the lands now known as Illinois as a site of numerous tribes who claim the area as their homelands and as a regional site of expulsion. We will consider questions concerning place, migration, external pressures, internal economic dynamics.
