Topic: North American Environmental History Description: This readings course explores the field of American environmental history through classic and newer work. Weekly discussions focused around aspects of the relationship between people and nature, exploring specific issues such as colonization and empire, commodification and capitalism, industrialization and pollution, science and environmental knowledge, war and the environment, urbanization, environmental justice, and more. Special attention will be paid to work that tells environmental history “from below.”
