Description: The course will focus on the political, social, and cultural aspects of the "Long 1960s," typically construed from the Montgomery Bus Boycott to the end of the Vietnam war. We will cover various liberation movements and organizations, the rise of liberalism and conservatism, the impact of the Civil Rights movement during this time, and the liberating (and not-so-liberating sexual revolution). Special attention will be paid to gender, race, and class, and how they interacted and intersected with each other during this tumultuous time in U.S. history.
