Tourism and recreational activities comprise close to 10% of global GDP and can be a development tool for poverty reduction in emerging economies. In addition to economic impact, tourism and recreation have global social and environmental significance. This course will use real-world examples to introduce students to the fundamentals of economics in tourism and recreation. Topics include consumer demand, firms, markets, investment, and global interactions related to the recreation and tourism industry. Additional attention is devoted to issues of environmental impacts and sustainability. Students are required to login and use Compass (compass2g.illinois.edu) in order to complete this course.

Sustainable Food Systems
Section Info:
Sustainable food systems are economically viable, environmentally sound, and socially just. In this course, we will examine the economic, environmental, and social aspects of mainstream food systems. We will then explore the opportunities and challenges for alternative models of food production and consumption. We will use case studies of recent food system sustainability initiatives and success stories and interact with leaders involved in such efforts in multiple food sectors. Students are required to login and use Compass (compass2g.illinois.edu) in order to complete this course. If needed, students may use the lab rooms 22/23 - ACES Lib, Info & Alum Ctr for this course.
