Trans Literature and Visual Culture - What exactly is trans literature? This course takes this question as its starting point in order to map the terrain of trans literature across a range of forms from memoir (a staple of trans lit) to novels and short stories as well as poems. What kinds of stories do trans people tell? How do they write the self, and what worlds do they build? What can poetics teach us about trans experience? Along the way we’ll also explore how trans narratives translate to the visual by considering comics, films, art, and video games.
