COURSE DESCRIPTION This session will focus on Fan Fiction, a genre that emerged with the prosperity of popular culture on platforms like fanfiction.net and Archive of Our Own (AO3). We will look at some Fan Fiction related to Harry Potter, Star Trek, etc., and explore how Fan Fiction, a multi-model genre generally not regarded as a part of the literary canon, can be analyzed using the so-called “traditional” critical theory. We will cover multiple literary themes, including feminism, queer theory, and cultural colonization, and discuss the social, cultural, and economic significance of Fan Fiction.
