Strategic Thinking in Recreation, Sport and Tourism

Credit: 3 hours.

In this capstone course, students integrate previous knowledge, including management, marketing, finance and budgeting, and RST operations and human resources, in the development of business strategy in a competitive business setting in recreation, sport and tourism industries. Students acquire in-depth knowledge and critical understanding of the environment in which RST organizations operate, the strategic management process, industry and competitive analysis, strategies to build competitive advantage, managing the internal organization and issues pertaining to the social responsibility of RST organizations. In the context of this course, students obtain practice in strategic management by running a simulated company. In this way, students gain in-depth insights into the strategic management of recreation, sport and tourism organizations.

3 undergraduate hours. No graduate credit. Prerequisite: RST 210, RST 240, and RST 325, or consent of instructor.
