Section Title:
Role of User-Generated Content
Section Info:
This course is designed to provide doctoral students an introduction to recent research issues and challenges, which are situated at the intersection of Information Systems, Data Science, and Healthcare Analytics with an emphasis on user-generated content. You will gain exposure to how research problems are formulated and refined to a working definition, and how research is conducted and reported. This course aims to help you transition from a consumer of research to an active researcher and a contributor of insight. It highlights various perspectives, examines different methodologies, and explores empirical research in information systems. Besides examining the research themes important to the aforementioned areas, we discuss many issues affecting the research process including rigor versus relevance, writing, submitting, and presenting papers. We will achieve the course objectives through individual reading of papers, class discussions and thorough work on a research paper. As we read each paper, we will focus on problem formulation, theory and hypothesis development, choice of methods, and writing style. The idea is to find inspiration from the readings along these four dimensions and apply the lessons learned in your own research. By the end of the semester, each student is expected to formulate a research question and develop a research paper or proposal.
Restriction(s):
Restricted to PHD:Business Administrtn -UIUC.
