Section Title:
Temporalities
Section Info:
Topic: Temporalities: Approaches to Time and Chronology in the History of Art and Architecture. In this seminar, we will examine how scholars of Art History and related disciplines have conceptualized and grappled with issues of change over time, as well as how images and objects push us to think about time in different ways. Do works of art, as they endure over generations, occupy temporalities other than our own? How do works produced in distant times and places challenge Western assumptions about chronology? Is time, as manifested in different visual forms, a straight line? A circle? A collage?
