Section Title:
Maya, Aztec, Inca: Ancient Art
Section Info:
Topic: Maya, Aztec, Inca: Ancient Art of Latin America. Just over 500 years ago, European colonists first began to explore the mainland of the American continents. What they encountered were vast and complex Indigenous civilizations that had existed for thousands of years. This course will introduce students to the rich and diverse cultures of prehispanic Latin America, including the Aztec, Maya, and Inca, through the works of art and architecture they left behind. From monumental pyramids to subterranean tombs, from elaborate fresco murals to miniature gold ornaments, these works shed light on thousands of years of complex Indigenous worldviews and politics.
