Title: Varieties of Cultural History Topic: This seminar offers an intensive survey of recent developments in the theory and practice of cultural history, broadly conceived. Each week we will examine a major study that exempling a particular genre or approach to the writing of cultural hisory. Topics include: the cultural history of the city, political culture, war and culture, the cultural history of nationalism, cultural studies of science, the history of the senses, the history of food, culture and the body, socio-cultural history, culture and race, psychocultural history, and cultural theory as cultural history. Interested students from all departments are welcome.
