Section Info: Title: 20th Century World to Midcentury: World War II Topic: This course offers an overview of the Second World War, the most destructive conflict in human history. The War claimed some 60 million lives or approximately 3% of the world's population; truly no home was left untouched by this global calamity. The course traces the political, military, social, and economic history of the Second World War in its major theaters. Students will become acquainted with the protagonists of this world catastrophe and chart battlefield fortunes through detailed campaign studies, as well as examine everyday life under totalitarian regimes, the role of ideology and technology in abetting violence, the evolution of genocidal policies, and the long-term legacies of WWII.
