Topic: Slavery and Society: American Atlantic and Antebellum Perspectives Description: This graduate seminar introduces students to classic and new historical works on the topic of slavery in the American Atlantic and antebellum worlds. Students will learn about the distinctive cultural, medical, social, and economic characteristics that shaped this institution over time. Finally, students will become familiar with ongoing historiographic debates within this subfield of history and consider strategies for effectively writing about the history of slavery in the academy and beyond.
