Title: Euro Thought & Soc Since 1789 Topic: This class will examine the history of wealth and inequality in Europe by focusing on four works: Jane Austen, Sense and Sensibility; Friedrich Engels, Condition of the Working Class in England; Marcel Mauss, The Gift; and Thomas Piketty, Capital in the Twenty-First Century. Together they will give us a many-sided portrait of how the control and perceptions of wealth have changed over the past two centuries.
