Topic Section R: The Teaching of Literature The aim of this seminar is to prepare graduate students to teach a range of literature courses at the introductory and advanced levels, from surveys to more specialized topics. While the focus of this seminar will be on practical issues related to teaching and course development—including developing sample syllabi and lesson plans as well as a teaching philosophy for use on the job market—we will also read a range of works that reflect on pedagogy more generally. Expect both to participate consistently in class discussion and to read and comment upon your peers’ work.
