TOPIC: Music in Our Midst This course explores music available to us via the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, a premiere venue in our midst. From traditional ensembles to new multimedia works, we will consider music?s role(s) across diverse performances. On some occasions we will be able to interact directly with the artists. Each event will spawn topics and point to developments in the arts that we will pursue further. Students will choose and purchase tickets for five performances (student-rate price = $10 each, no other costs are involved), each of which will be the subject of a written position paper. Class preparation will consist of selected readings and directed online research. During the last few weeks of the semester, students will develop projects focused on performance seasons at other venues or the recent performance trajectory of an artist or group of artists. Project presentations (c. 20 minutes) take place at the end of the semester. No mid-term or final exam is involved.
