Lang & Lit Doctoral Seminar
Section Info:
This doctoral seminar introduces students to the Language and Literacy Education program. Faculty will present and lead discussion of key topics for new scholars, including program policies, procedures, and milestones; professionalism and ethics in the academy; publications and editorial boards; and presenting at scholarly conferences. We will meet on Friday afternoons (4:00-6:00) four times during the semester: January 30, February 20, March 13 and April 10. Students at all stages of their doctoral studies are strongly encouraged to enroll in this one-credit seminar.

Second Language Literacy I
Section Info:
We will critically evaluate and reflect on the topic of second-language literacy by examining its epistemological and theoretical foundations, as well as the questions, methods, and analyses used in empirical research. Through examples from classrooms and non-formal settings, we will explore how learners? first language(s) and language varieties influence and contribute to development of literacy in second/additional languages. The course focuses on learners in grades 4-12 and is designed for doctoral and highly motivated masters students interested in second language literacy and biliteracy research in and outside the U.S.
