Topic: 20th c Art from Latin America. This class presents a thematically organized survey of 20th century art produced by artists from Latin America and the Caribbean. The works to be studied in the class come from a diverse range of media including architecture, painting, muralism, and conceptual art. We will discuss issues of identity, race, gender, and politics among other things. This course is not meant to be a comprehensive survey of the region. Rather, it will introduce students to a variety of concepts related to art from a selection of Latin American and Caribbean countries. Graduate section.
