TOPIC: THE MUSICAL THEATRE SINGER. A workshop course that explores the vocal technique, style and performance of solo vocal repertoire from American Musical Theater. Topics and demonstrations on healthy vocal techniques, auditioning, acting a song, as well as, effective song selection for auditions and recitals will be addressed. Additional insights on performance styles will be gained by weekly assignments. Class lectures will examine a brief survey of musical theater from operetta to current Broadway shows and how the vocal styles, techniques and songs have changed and evolved. The semester will culminate in a final class presentation, attending local musical theatre productions, and performance on the final class cabaret concert. Course is open to all non-music majors.
