(MATSE 422) Review of fundamental properties of vector fields; consideration of the reaction of insulating solids to external electric fields in terms of dielectric theory; the properties of ceramic dielectrics including treatment of ferroelectrics in terms of present theory; and correlation of the piezoelectric properties of ferroelectric crystals and ceramics with the crystal structure, microstructure, and the ferroelectric properties.
Prerequisite: Consent of instructor.
