The curriculum covers the components of a manual lathe, their functions, and proper usage, and basic metrology. Students will develop the skills to select appropriate tooling, fixturing methods, spindle speeds, and feed rates for various applications and part metallurgy. Students will also turn a test part within specified tolerances. This course is designed, in part, to help engineers understand manufacturability and processes involved in realizing their designs. Times arranged with the instructor: select two days from M,Tu,W,Th,F at 12:15-2:45pm or 3:15 to 5:45pm for three weeks. This will be held in the Engineering Senior Design Lab.
